Hempseed oil, also known as hemp oil, is extracted after cold-pressing hemp seeds. Hemp oil is mostly unrefined and has a clear green texture with a nutty flavor.

Hemp oil is different from CBD (cannabidiol) oil extracted from the cannabis plant that uses hemp flowers and leaves for its production.

Hemp oil is extracted after grinding hemp seeds. Hemp oil contains little-to-no THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), a psychoactive compound found in marijuana that causes a high effect. 

Hemp oil for skin benefits - 

Using hemp oil for skin has many benefits. You can either add it to your diet or applied externally. Here are a few major perks of using hemp oil - 

Hemp keeps your skin oil-free.

Hemp oil is a perfect remedy for people with oily skin. It moisturizes your skin without clogging the pores. It works effectively on oily skin by hydrating the skin and regulating oil concentration on the skin.

Dryness also leads to the accumulation of oil on the skin, which results in acne. Hemp oil moisturizes dry skin without clogging pores, preventing acne caused by excess oil.

Hemp moisturizes skin and cures inflammation.

Hemp oil contains essential fatty acids, including Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a profound anti-inflammatory agent that also encourages skin growth and new cell generation.

Hemp oil reduces inflammation and irritation on the skin. It cures acne and other conditions like psoriasis while keeping the skin nourished and moisturized.

Before applying the oil, you can try a patch test to ensure you don't get side effects:

  • Wash and soak a small area of your upper arm.
  • Rub pure hemp oil on your arm. 
  • Cover the oiled area with a bandage and do not touch it for 24 hours. Be aware that the bandage doesn't get wet.
  • If you see any redness on your skin or fee burning, itching, or other sensations, you may assume that your skin is sensitive to hemp oil, and you should not use it. Remove the bandage immediately and wash your hand with soap if itching or irritation increases.
  • If the oil does not affect your skin negatively, you can keep using it as long as you want.

If you’re using hemp oil for pain to cure acne, apply the oil directly to your skin and leave it on for one to two minutes before washing it away with hot water.

Add hemp oil to other ingredients and prepare a mixture. 

You can also mix hemp oil and other anti-inflammatory and soothing ingredients using a recipe suggested below and apply applied directly to the skin:

  • 1/4 cup hemp oil
  • 2 teaspoons melted coconut oil 
  • 4 to 5 drops essential oil for skin nourishment, like lavender or rosemary oil

Note: Essential oils, like lavender and rosemary, should be diluted and only be used topically. It's advised not to consume it orally as many are toxic. Or if you are using hemp oil for hair, use it topically. 

Add hemp oil to your food.

You can also consume hemp oil directly, which provides the same skin and overall health benefits as using the oil topically. In fact, there’s less risk of any skin irritation or breakouts if you take hemp oil orally. It may temporarily upset your digestive system.

You can take 1 to 2 teaspoons of hemp oil daily divided into two doses.

You may not like the taste of hemp oil if you consume it separately. A better way is to add it in different recipes. You can add hemp oil in your breakfast, smoothies, salad dressings, or soup.
